Friends and their Haven
‘We aim to heighten public awareness of the existence and role of these reserves as well as joining with other community groups and organisations in the environmental betterment of the Albany area.'
Education
A key project for our group is establishing a practical environmental education centre on site for use by the community and local schools. We are keenly pursuing contacts with local schools and community groups in an effort to provide the best conservation resource for the community.
Community Nursery
A community nursery is being established on site and will be a tremendous resource for all. Seedlings from the property and other sources will be nurtured and given away to schools and other community groups.
Become a Friend of Three Streams/Kauri Grove - Why?
-
to widen your gardening
experience;
-
to learn more about
native trees and how to care for them;
-
to share the joy of
creating a new landscape;
-
to feel the thrill in
discovering a precious seedling hidden by the weeds and debris you are
“clearing”;
-
in deciding whether to
leave it where it is (preferred), replant in a more suitable place,
or pot up until stronger;
-
Come and join us while
we think about whether this particular area should have
colourful
shrubs for the short term and/or big forest trees for the long-term;
-
Come and join us in planning the future view from this vantage point.
The vision of the Arboretum
is an opportunity for both the landscape and the people of North Shore City.
To make the vision a reality involves people doing everything from nailing
more planks to the boardwalk to setting up meetings. Friends of Three Streams help bring this all together.
